Steering Box Standard Beetle 50-77 KG 56-74 T-3 62-73 THING 73-74 Economy
This is the direct replacement for 66-77 Standard Beetle / 66-74 Ghia. When installing into pre-1966 Beetle & Ghia - you will also need to buy a new pitman arm, contact me for info. This arm fits the new steering box correctly and provides the proper smaller tie-rod end holes.
Some 1961 and earlier cars with 28mm pitman arm shafts will have to change to the later model 24mm shaft pitman arm. Most VW Steering Boxes are tight when first installed but will loosen up a bit after a couple hundred miles.
- Does not work on Super Beetle
- Comes with assembly lubrication only, requires 90 weight hypoid gear oil
- VW Part #: 113-415-061-C
TECH TIP: How to diagnose your worn steering gear box: With the vehicle sitting on the ground, pinch the steering wheel between your thumb and index finger and turn the wheel lightly in both directions. The freeplay should not exceed 25mm or 1 inch, measured at the wheel rim.
